Exploring the Playground
Congratulations Sophie!
Sophie wrote an essay about her experience during the ANZAC weekend at Founders. She won an award for her efforts and we are VERY proud of her.
The War in the Windmill
I arrived at Founders Park and went through the Windmill Time Machine back to 1939. I was 6 and when me and my family got there the Air raid sirens went off, we ran for shelter. When we got to the Anderson air raid shelter we met the neighbors and we snuggled in our beds warm and tight. We weren’t like the other neighbors who had a Morrison shelter under their table. As soon as the air raid was over we heard jeeps coming towards us and knew there was going to be a war and got our gas- masks on. Some people got hit by bullets and nurses carried them to the ambulance on stretchers. The nurses had blood down their aprons from helping the wounded soldiers .The big loud noises were really scary. I peeked out from behind my curtain and could see the Germans lining up the Americans soldiers and Marching them into the p. o. w. camp. Mum called me down for lunch it was carrot fudge, cabbage soup and raspberry sago .Yuck! Finally it was time to go back through the windmill time machine, back to 2010. I am still 6 and very pleased that I live in 2010 and not in 1939.
Well done Sophie!
